The Timm's Hill Trail is groomed for both classic and skate skiing.  It's groomed at minimum weekly and after each snowfall as necessary to ensure a quality skiing experience.

From the south end, the first 3 miles of the trail start out fairly flat and are great for beginners and families.  The next 7 miles get progressively hillier and offer more of a challenge for the intermediate to advanced skiers.

The Timm's Hill Trail connects the Camp Forest Springs Trails and Rib Lake Ski & Snowshoe Trails to the High Point Ski Trails, creating over 70km of connected trails, offering some of the finest cross-country skiing in the mid-west.

Snowshoeing, skijoring, and well behaved pets are welcome on the Timm's Hill Trail,

the Rib Lake Ski & Snowshoe Trails, and the High Point Ski Trails.

Conditions are very good, and I think everything is covered, but the snow is very thin in spots.  There may be rocks and bare spots just below the surface.

I groomed the southern half of the THT Saturday evening, from the Rusch Preserve (Mile 0) to Blomberg Bridge (Mile 4.5).  The ice isn't too bad - I was able to scratch it up and smooth it out.

The problem is the low snow.  From the Rusch Preserve (Mile 0) to just north of the County Line (Mile 2.5), it's not too bad.  There are a few thin spots and some "dirty" areas of leaves and trigs, but the THT is fairly flat in this section so you can avoid that stuff.

At Mile 2.5 is the first big/long downhill, and there are rocks exposed near the top and bare spots near the bottom.  The rest of the THT is pretty much the same - stretches of decent snow, with areas of leaves and trigs, and areas of little or no snow.  I do not recommend skiing north of Mile 2.5.

There is very little snow predicted for the next 10 days...Bummer...

We've had temps in the mid 30's and rain Thursday night and Friday.  The snow is holding up but it's warm and soft.  It's supposed to cool off Saturday morning and everything should refreeze.  But that will make the trails icy and may expose dirt and rocks.

I plan to groom as soon as everything refreezes - probably sometime Saturday afternoon or evening.

Friday night I groomed and tracked the THT from the Stone Lake Esker (Mile 4.5) north to Timm's Hill County Park.

I spread out one of the snow banks just north of Mile 8 where about 100 yards of the THT is plowed for logging, and groomed and tracked the Yellow Loop, the Blue Loop in the Park, and the entire Park Road.

The Green Loop and the portion of the Blue Loop south of RR #62 are not groomed.

Happy New Year!

I packed, groomed, and tracked the THT in Taylor County this morning.

The entire THT is now groomed and tracked, from the Rusch Preserve to Timm's Hill County Park.

On the High Point Ski Trails, just north of Mile 8 on the THT, there is some logging going on and about 100 yards of the trail is plowed.

The Yellow Loop is groomed and tracked, and the Blue Loop in the Park is groomed and tracked.

The Green Loop and the portion of the Blue Loop south of RR #62 are not groomed.

The section of the THT in Taylor County is closed and will not be groomed until

January 1, 2013.  Until then, the groomed THT will not connect

to the Rib Lake Ski & Snowshoe Trails.

We received a total of 4" of snow Friday.

The THT is groomed and tracked from the County Line (Mile 2) to the Timm's Hill County Park (Mile 10).

For the High Point Ski Trails, the Yellow Loop is groomed and tracked, and the Blue Loop in the Park is groomed and tracked.  We're working to clean up and open the rest of the High Point Ski Trails.

Equipment issues, timing, and downed trees have prevented the High Point Ski Trails from being groomed, but we're working to rectify those issues.

The middle part of the THT - from the County Line (Mile 2) to the Stone Lake Esker (Mile 4.5) - will be groomed Saturday night.

I groomed the THT in Price County Friday night.  It's pretty good considering the low snow, but there are still thin spots and sticks/rocks/dirt just below the surface that you don't see until you feel them under your skis.

We’re expecting more snow Saturday night and Sunday.  After that the trails should be pretty good.

If you ski Saturday before more snow, use old skis and ski “carefully”.

We got about 5” of snow.  I groomed part of the THT, but had an equipment issue.

That's been fixed and will finish grooming Friday night.

I skied today on the part that is groomed. It was pretty good, but there are still thin spots and sticks/rocks/dirt just below the surface that you don't see until you feel them under your skis.

We’re expecting more snow Saturday night and Sunday.  After that the trails should be pretty good.
